The Journey of Self Discovery

Wealth Principle:

The number one reason most people don’t get what they want

Is that they don’t know what they want.

Discovering You…

“Whatever your mind most naturally turns to, that’s the key to an enjoyable and productive future. Examine it, write it down, and explore it from every possible angle. There’s opportunity there – worlds of it!”

— Earl Nightingale

You Are Responsible For You

All capacity for change and growth exists within you and only you. If you are not managing yourself, then by default, either circumstances or other people will control your actions. Whenever we allow others to have power over our lives, we place our future in their hands. We abdicate our right to make choices beneficial to us. We stifle all opportunity for growth.

Without goals, priorities, and life strategy of our own, we drift with the herd, unable to break loose to achieve even a small portion of our cherished dreams.

As in all quests, the journey of self-discovery starts with a question —
or in this case a series of questions.

Give yourself the gift of a moment or as many moments as you need and answer the following questions. Use the first answer that comes into your mind. Allow spontaneous spirit to guide you.

There are no right or wrong answers. The answers are just yours right now — a baseline from which to start your journey.

  • What action steps are needed to help you take charge of your life?
  • What do you want to change?
  • What emotions do you feel when you think about change?
  • What essential skills do you need to negotiate with those around you to support the changes you have instituted in your life?
  • Do you know how to address some of the personal issues that sometime interfere with your ability to fully engage in change efforts?
  • Can you define your wants, needs and desires?
  • What tools are available to define your purpose, delineate and rank your goals and set down the action steps needed to achieve them?

The journey of self-discovery requires a careful examination your comfort zones, your habits, likes, and dislikes, relationships, hopes and fears. To claim and manifest your dreams you must be able to clearly delineate and articulate who you are, what you want.

Your self-discovery plan has two parts, strategic and tactical. The terms tactics and strategy are often confused: tactics are the actual means used to gain a goal —THE HOW, while strategy is the overall plan —THE WHAT.

Strategic Assessment

What do you want?

The starting point of success is honestly assessing what you really want in your personal and professional life and deciding to take the action. A strategy is a long-term plan designed to achieve a stated purpose. Strategies are used to identify obstacles and determine probable resolutions. Developing a personal strategic plan requires the formulation, implementation and continuous evaluation of those processes that enable you to identify and achieve your life objectives.
Identifying a life strategy is discovering the “What” of your life plan.

Tactical Implementation

How do you get it?

Tactics describe specific actions taken in a specific order, using specific techniques to accomplish stated objectives within a targeted time-frame. Once you have clearly defined what you want – developing ‘the how’ action steps to achieve your stated goals fall into place.

Order matters, you can’t act on the “Hows” until you have clearly defined your “Whats”
